Abstract
Within an aspirational approach to engineering practice and ethics, the paradigm of learning from example is particularly well suited. In this contribution, learning from biography – a variant of this paradigm – drives a review of the biography and thought of Friedrich Dessauer (1881-1963), a devoted Christian who became one of the pioneers of biomedical engineering and philosophy of technology, leaving to posterity also a remarkable case for learning from biography.
