Abstract

A talk given by Richard Gabriel in 2000 highlighted how various spheres of thought - architecture, biology, economics, poetry - can influence our understanding of software and its development. Gabriel proposed “Mob Software”, a model for software development that he claims will enable software developers to work more effectively, make computing more accessible to the masses, and encourage more creative use of computing. This paper extensively demonstrates how this proposal is rooted in basic worldview assumptions about the laws of nature and human society and explores to what extent Christians can participate in such a model of software development.
