Abstract

This paper describes a long‑standing assignment in an introductory thermodynamics course that integrates the second law with theological, philosophical, and social‑ethical inquiry. The authors show how this approach aligns with institutional mission, enhances student engagement, strengthens writing and reasoning skills, and measurably improves students’ perception of connections between engineering and the liberal arts.
