Abstract
There are widely different assesments of the value of technology for modern culture. Technology is making decisive contributions to our world, but these are not always beneficial for society. This essay looks at the changing structure of society and the role of technology in this process, in particular, at the framework technology provides for a scientific method of organizing society, both in manufacturing and in society at large. The role of people is changed by applying the scientific method and technology to management and work. Economics and politics are also impacted by technology, making totalitarian control more possible and threatening human freedom. [CJ]
